It Goddamn Better Get Better

Today is National Coming Out day, which is lent special significance this year given that there have been several teen suicides in recent weeks that have been tied to anti-gay bullying. I’ve seen more than a few messages of support on Facebook and references to The Trevor Project and the It Gets Better Project which are both things that everyone should be aware of, though I’m sure most people visiting this website already are. Honestly, in a lot of ways I’m a private person (…says the girl who writes about herself on the internet, but seriously, stick with me here for a minute) and I really and honestly believe that no one should have to define themselves by who they’re attracted to and that as long as everyone involved is a consenting adult it’s nobody’s business what or who you do on your own time. Unfortunately, society’s not there yet. I hope everyone out there takes a few moments today to find your own way to stand up for equality, because for some people it is a life or death situation. And on that depressing note, here’s Monday night’s TV:

7:30pm: “NLDS Game 4: Giants at Braves” on TBS

8:00pm: “90210” on The CW

“Chuck” on NBC

“Dancing With the Stars” on ABC

“Giuliana and Bill” on Style. One hour third season premiere.

“House” on Fox

“How I Met Your Mother” on CBS

8:30pm: “Monday Night Football: Minnesota Vikings at New York Jets” on ESPN

“Rules of Engagement” on CBS

9:00pm: “American Pickers” on History. Second season finale.

“The Best Thing I Ever Ate” on Food Network

“Cake Boss” on TLC. Returns from hiatus.

“Carlos” on Sundance. Original mini-series.

“Dr.G: Medical Examiner” on Health. This show bewilders me, because all of the autopsies are re-enacted but they still blur everything out. You see more gore on “Grey’s Anatomy” or “CSI” than you do on this show which gets in the way when Dr.G is all “Look at his heart!” and you’re all “Oh, is it that blurry red blob there? Or maybe that other blurry red blob more up in that direction?” Very frustrating.

“The Event” on NBC

“Gossip Girl” on The CW

“Lie to Me” on Fox

“God in America” on PBS

“The Real Housewives of Atlanta” on Bravo

“Reviving Ophelia” on Lifetime. Original telefilm. The use of the title “Reviving Ophelia” might lead you to believe that Lifetime is going out on a limb and showing a sensitive and touching portrayal about the emotional difficulties teenage girls face but nope! It’s another movie about a woman getting beaten by her boyfriend. Oh, um, spoiler alert.

“Scare Tactics” on SyFy

“Top Gear” on BBCA. This week’s guests are Rupert Grint of Hot UK Ginger fame and Rubens Barrichello.

“Two and a Half Men” on CBS

9:30pm: “Mike and Molly” on CBS

10:00pm: “The A-List” on Logo

“Chase” on NBC

“Hawaii Five-0” on CBS

“Hoarders” on A&E

“Southern Fried Stings” on TruTV

“Thintervention with Jackie Warner” on Bravo

“Texas Quints” on TLC. Anyone want to give an estimate on how many “everything’s bigger in Texas” style jokes we get in episode #1? I’m thinking at least four.

“Weeds” on Showtime

“The World of Jenks” on MTV

“Castle” on ABC

10:30pm: “The Big C” on Showtime

“The Buried Life” on MTV

“Texas Quints” on TLC

Late Night Listings

“The Late Show with David Letterman” on CBS featuring Jim Parsons, Geoffrey Canada, Mark Ronson with Q-Tip and MNDR

“The Tonight Show with Jay Leno” on NBC featuring Jay Mohr, Chad Ochocinco, and Travie McCoy

“Jimmy Kimmel Live” on ABC featuring Michael Chiklis, Carrie Ann Inaba, and The xx

“The Late Late Show with Craig Ferguson” on CBS featuring John Malkovich and Henry Cho

“Late Night with Jimmy Fallon” on NBC featuring Donald Trump, Sam Rockwell, and Brad

“The Daily Show with Jon Stewart” on Comedy Central featuring Johnny Knoxville

“The Colbert Report” on Comedy Central featuring Robert Reich
