NASA Fact Checks "The Martian" On Tumblr

I’m sure you’ve all heard about The Martian, the Matt Damon trapped in space movie that was released this weekend (and if you haven’t, what planet have you been on?). The movie is great, and the science behind it is pretty solid. NASA was consulted on the film, as they are on every film in which the agency is represented by name, and according to multiple sources the science in the film is almost 100% solid. To show how close the movie gets, NASA put together this Tumblr post showing images from the movie side by side with actual work being done right now to get a manned mission to Mars. (Almost no spoilers, the 7th image down is particularly suggestive of a plot point.)

They also retweeted this photo from the Curiosity rover of what Mars actually looks like for the real Martians (which, as far as we know right now, are all robots):
