Glimpses of Jurassic World’s new big, bad hybrid dino, the Indominus Rex (WAY TO USE LATIN TO SEAL IN YOUR OWN DOOM, DINO MAKERS) have been leaking out for a while now. But the first hi-res image of the new beast was released today, in the form of an odd cross-promotional car advertisement.
Indominus Rex just wants to know what it’s going to take to get you into a new Mercedes today.
Look, I don’t expect Jurassic World to take itself as seriously as… well, as anything else that exists in the world, really. But I DID think we could expect more than this. Cross-promotion is nothing new, but this particular pairing of dino vs. luxury vehicle is a bit silly, even for what basically looks to be a buddy caper about the love between Chris Pratt and some velociraptors. The worst part, though, is that for a movie with roots in the most terrifying images some of us knew as a child, a movie that evokes such strong nostalgia, the first high-res image we get of their big, impressive, built-up baddie looks like a damn cartoon. Cartoons aren’t scary, Jurassic World. You know what’s scary? NOT CARTOONS.
But it’s not all cartoonish CGI. There is at least one practical floating raptor head involved.
