First, let me remind you that the next entry in the Harry Potter stories is not a prequel. Even though J.K. Rowling politely and repeatedly dissuaded that theory herself, fans have perpetuated that misinformation. Months after Harry Potter and the Cursed Child was announced, we’re finally getting official word on what the two-part play — debuting at London’s Palace Theater — is about. Pottermore reminds that when last we saw Harry, he was seeing off his two eldest children (James Sirius and Albus Severus) at Platform Nine and Three-Quarters; the play will explore what happened to Harry and his family after that moment.

It was always difficult being Harry Potter and it isn’t much easier now that he is an overworked employee of the Ministry of Magic, a husband and father of three school-age children.

While Harry grapples with a past that refuses to stay where it belongs, his youngest son Albus must struggle with the weight of a family legacy he never wanted. As past and present fuse ominously, both father and son learn the uncomfortable truth: sometimes, darkness comes from unexpected places.”

This is very exciting, and better than a prequel!

Here’s the artwork reveal:

The author and her collaborators, writer Jack Thorne and director John Tiffany call exploring the Potter story through a new medium “exhillerating,” and Rowling says she’s confident when audiences see the stage production, they’ll “understand why we chose to tell this story in this way.”

Would you believe people are still asking if Cursed Child, which begins 19 years later, is a prequel? Rowling is a patient saint.

You lucky London dogs can register for presale tickets through October 24th; performances begin next May.
