Throughout the series, Jonathan Levinson existed on the periphery of Buffy the Vampire Slayer. He was a fellow Sunnydale student and eventual “archnemesises” of the Scooby gang. But he was also ignored, driven to the point of suicide and mocked—and ultimately killed by—by his best friends.

But today, Jonathan has had the last laugh. Danny Strong, the actor behind the SUPERSTAR, has had one of the most surprising and successful careers of the whole cast. Basically, today, he’s this Jonathan:

He’s practically a god.

So, Danny and Jonathan, we’re sorry we underestimated you.

We always knew you were destined for greatness.

— For starters, when he was very young, he befriended Quentin Tarantino, then a Randal Graves-esque video store employee, while Strong rented videos.

— His first script, Recount, was number one on the famous Hollywood Black List of unproduced scripts. The HBO movie went on to star Kevin Spacey and Laura Dern, and got Strong his first Emmy nomination.

— Next came Game Change, about the 2008 election. For that, he won his Emmy.

— He wrote the screenplay for Lee Daniels’ The Butler, a script that once again earned him a spot on the Hollywood Black List.

— He and Daniels together created Empire, which has taken over the damn world and gave us COOKIE.

— He also co-wrote both parts of Mockingjay, the final two Hunger Games films.

— Next, he’s writing the screenplay for a film version of Guys and Dolls.

Well done, Danny Strong.
