Edward Snowden Joined Twitter Today, Immediately Started Trolling the NSA Like a Pro

Edward Snowden, the former CIA employee and government contractor who most of the country seems to think is the founder of Wikileaks or did something else maybe involving computers, has, as of today, joined Twitter. And what did the man responsible for informing the country that Big Brother is ALWAYS watching do for his first Twitter move? He started following the NSA, and only the NSA. Cause sure, Big Brother is watching, but Snowden wants them to know he’s watching too.

For his first tweet, Snowden— whose Twitter bio says he “used to work for the government. Now I work for the public” — channeled that horribly overplayed Verizon catchphrase, “Can you hear me now?” Now, either living abroad has caused Snowden to be a few years behind in his pop culture references, or he’s taking a dig at the NSA’s directive for Verizon to hand over phone records. Probably both, right?

The answer to that question, of course, was a resounding yes.

Among those who welcomed Snowden to Twitter was fellow nerd Neil deGrasse Tyson.

Snowden seems perfectly fitted for Twitter. He’s a little bit troll, a little bit celebrity, and a big fan of cat pictures.

And he’s got a pretty decent sense of humor, to boot.
