Dixie Carter passed away yesterday at the age of 70. Most of you likely know her from her role in the sitcom “Designing Women,” which ran from 1986 to 1993. She played Julia Sugarbaker, an outspoken intellectual liberal (ironically, Dixie Carter was a Republican in real life). Carter also had a two-year stint on Amy Brenneman’s “Family Law,” and most recently, won an Emmy for her guest role in “Desperate Housewives.”
Dixie Carter was also married to Hal Holbrook (“Deep Throat” in All the President’s Men). Carter’s last film appearance was in 2008’s Evening Sun, in which she co-starred with her husband.
Sad news. Carter was a lovely lady.
