Death And Arrests In Oregon Militia Update

Ammon Bundy, along with with his brother Ryan and four other members of the non-Oregonian militia who have been occupying a wildlife refuge in Oregon since the early days of 2016 have been arrested in a traffic stop conducted by the FBI.

The traffic stop did not go off completely peacefully, however, as Ryan Bundy is said to be suffering a gunshot wound, and the militia’s recent de facto spokesperson, Robert “LaVoy” Finicum, is reported as deceased following a brief shootout between the militiamen and the federal authorities.

The Oregonian reports:

Nevada Assemblywoman Michele Fiore said that Ammon Bundy called his wife, Lisa Bundy, from the back of a police car on Tuesday night.

Fiore, a vocal supporter of the Bundy family, said that Ammon Bundy told his wife that Finicum was cooperating with police when he was shot.

But sources told The Oregonian/OregonLive that Finicum and Ryan Bundy disobeyed orders to surrender and resisted arrest. No other details were available.

A separate stop also led to the arrests of two more activists with ties to the group.

The statement from the FBI reads as follows;

Apparently relatively unversed in the concept of ‘occupations’, ‘the FBI’, or ‘logic’, Ammon Bundy’s group were stopped while travelling to a community meeting in another town two hours away. Two hours drive there; two hours talking gibberish; two hours drive back. Call that six hours. That’s roughly how long the FBI usually naps during stakeouts of armed groups occupying federal buildings, right? We’ll be back before they wake up, fellas! Okay, just to be safe we’ll take the smaller rural roads. They can’t be looking everywhere.

The deceased militia member, Robert Finicum, popularly called ‘Tarp Man’ was also known for having a large amount of foster children, for whom the compensation he received was, he said, his ‘main source of income.’

All those arrested were charged with conspiracy to impede officers of the United States from discharging their official duties through the use of force, intimidation, or threats.
