'Broad City's' Abbi Jacobson Agrees: That Pegging Episode Is the Best Thing They've Ever Done

Over its two season run, Broad City has had a lot of really spectacular moments. From Ilana dancing to Ilana saying or doing anything, it could be hard to pick your favorite. But in terms of full episodes, there’s one clear winner, and Abbi Jacobson has just confirmed she agrees. At an event at the Strand bookstore in New York this week where she was promoting a coloring book she’s made (really), she told the crowd, “I think the pegging episode is the best episode we’ve ever done.”

For a refresher (and warning: NSFW images below), this was the episode in which Abbi finally got her date with neighbor Jeremy. But once she did, she found out Jeremy had very… localized interests. Ones that made her question her own limits of sexual comfort. Abbi (speaking in the third person so as to distance herself from her character), explained how the idea came up in the first place.

We wanted ‘Abbi’ to finally hook up with Jeremy because we’d been showing this pining forever and we were like, Why save this? We knew they were going to get together and then [pegging] came up in the room and once it did, we were just all like, Yeah.
The amazing thing about the episode is that they never went for the obvious joke.
It was very delicate because no one ever pitched it as it’s the joke that he’s into pegging. We were very careful because we didn’t want it to be misconstrued that that preference is looked down on. It was more in the aftermath that he’s so particular about his [dildo].
Abbi never judged Jeremy for wanting to be on the receiving end of her strap-on. Instead, the episode was about her finding her own strength—

—And the joke was not in Jeremy’s proclivities, but in his douchery. Plus, you know… this:
