Baby Animals and Minor Schadenfreude: A Roundup of Aggressive Escapism

Hello there, internet friends. It’s been a hell of a few days, and I know most of our hearts are worn out, with no room for think pieces or heavy discussion. Most of our brains are begging for a break from the terrible things that have happened, the awful responses to those events, and really anything rooted in reality. So here. Here are a few things that have nothing to do with anything happening in the world, or at least anything important. None of this is meant to undermine or detract from or minimize the tragedies happening around the world. But there’s nothing wrong in taking a brief respite if we’re lucky enough to afford one. So set your brains and your hearts aside and start with the ultimate diversion: five and a half minutes of puppies learning to swim.

How about these two zebras who escaped from the circus, ran around Philadelphia for a while, before finally being brought back uninjured? That seems like a pretty perfect story for adorable distraction.

Terrible, unspeakable things happen in the world. But you know what also happens? Bunnies.

Maybe your distraction method of choice is internet outrage. We’re not going to get into Rob Lowe Tweets levels of rage, but how about some very mild Star Wars-based irritation? Because we can agree that it’s silly and totally unnecessary to gender the new BB-8 droid, right? Of course. But if they ARE going to gender it (which apparently they are), it was kinda cool when we were told it was going to be a she. Well apparently the droid makers took a second look and changed their minds.

On a less annoying Star Wars note, competitive light saber battles are a thing, and they are awesome.

Is there room for a tiny bit of silly schadenfreude in our distraction? If there is, I think it comes in the form of a woman who tried to punch a Denny’s server for questioning her interpretation of “all you can eat.”

You know what? I think that’s about all I can handle in the way of things that aren’t cat videos.

I have got to do this

Sleep well, Pajiba Nation. Please dream of zebras and cats and bunnies and silly strangers being weird at Denny’s.
