'Archer' Does Away With ISIS

In a decision that is unsurprising, the creators of Archer have decided to eliminate the name ISIS from the fictional spy series in the sixth season. It’s been revealed that in the opening episode, the background of a shot will be movers taking down the ISIS sign and rolling it out the door. This is a change from the version of the episode that aired at Comic-Com, and executive producer Matt Thompson says they will no longer say ISIS on the show.

The write-up at The Daily Beast includes the creators discussing their decision and their own feelings regarding whether or not to use the name, or keep memorabilia with the name ISIS on it. The terrorist group ISIS will not feature in the show, and there will be no discussion of them. The agency will simply progress in such a way that they don’t use that name anymore.

While I admit having a few giggles at the idea of a terrorist group having the same name as a hilariously inept cartoon detective agency, it’s getting less funny as things get worse in Iraq and Syria. And it will make watching some of the earlier episodes a little weird.
