Apparently a Lot of People Didn't Hate Neil Patrick Harris' Oscar Hosting Performance

If you were on the internet or having a conversation with other people or just having basic human thoughts inside your own head during the Oscars this past weekend, you probably spent some time analyzing why and how Neil Patrick Harris, beloved by all who know his work, could do such an undeniably terrible job hosting the awards show. Although as it turns out, “undeniable” is not quite accurate. Apparently a poll of 360 Oscar viewers found that the majority (71%) would like to see him host again— and not even out of any sense of schadenfreude, just because they actually liked it.

A total of 71 percent of viewers voted that they would like to see Harris return as host in the future, and a minority pool of 29 percent — consisting mainly of males under the age of 25 — said they wouldn’t want the former Tony Awards and Emmys host to come back to the Oscars stage.

The words most commonly used to describe his performance were “funny” and “entertaining,” and only a few people said they were “bored” or that NPH was just “OK.” Of the last five years’ hosts, 30% said Ellen DeGeneres was their favorite host, with NPH at 20%. Which means that of the remaining 50%, some people actually voted to say they preferred Anne Hathaway and James Franco or Seth MacFarlane, which really just renders this entire poll invalid. (Billy Crystal remains a valid choice according to my completely empirical opinion.)

Although, to be honest, I wouldn’t be entirely opposed to Neil Patrick Harris returning, for two reasons only. 1. I bet the writers would find some justification to get him back down to his tighty whiteys. And 2. There’s no way in hell they’d reprise that lockbox joke, right?
