All the Secrets We Can Glean From the New 'Gilmore Girls' Pictures

For Gilmore Girls fans, the well of new season news has been pretty dry lately. (Well, mostly.) The show has officially begun filming, but it feels like most of the big news items have been revealed. At least until today, when Entertainment Weekly released a photo spread that they’re calling “An Exclusive First Look Inside Stars Hollow.” Now, these pictures might look totally conventional and spoiler-free. I mean look, just look at that header picture. Just Gilmore Girls being smiley and huggy. There’s no information there, and because I am a fan on the internet, I DEMAND AND AM ENTITLED TO INFORMATION. So this spread seemed to be a total bust. But then I looked closer… and things started to come together.

Take this picture. Where are we? Is this a location we’re familiar with? Sure, maybe it’s a setting staged specifically for this shoot, rather than the show. Or maybe Lorelai painted the Dragonfly. OR MAYBE THAT’S WHAT THEY’RE HOPING WE’LL BELIEVE. I think it’s more likely that the show takes place in an entirely new location. Probably because Rory and Lorelai are on the run from the mafia. Or the DEA. Or some oppressive futuristic overlords attempting to ban the color navy blue.

Next up:
What can we take away here? More of the overwhelming navy blue/denim motif? Obviously, in the Gilmore’s escape, they’re taking to the high seas. As… cowboy pirates? At the very least, we know that Rory still hasn’t learned how to hold a coffee cup upright.

From this picture, the show would clearly have us believe that there is some sort of musical happening, which is most likely set in the 60s, or otherwise has some time-traveling element to it.
However, the obvious truth is that this is a flashback to the 1990s. It can be hard to tell, since both leads are ageless timelord goddesses, but Rory’s outfit is not half-assed hippie costume. That’s 100% Delia’s catalogue. That kid’s shirt simply seals the theory.

This picture looks to give the most away, as Rory seems to have turned her attention to teaching.

However, if you look closer, this is no average English Lit class.

She’s obviously using her status to push some sort of Jane Eyre/Game of Thrones shared universe agenda. FEMINIST PROPAGANDA IF EVER I’VE HEARD IT.

And what do we have in this picture? A romantic walk with an awkward shy extra shoved into the background?

NOT EVEN CLOSE. Obviously, at least one of the episodes will take a psycho stalker/It Follows route. From Luke’s “Smell the Fart” acting there, can we assume he’s simply sensing a sinister presence, or does he have a deeper knowledge of what’s happening?

Based on Emily Gilmore’s murder eyes, I’m naming her as prime suspect in this horror plot right now.

Of course, those are just her regular eyes. Perhaps this dark undercurrent has been there all along.
