"Turns Out, He Was the One With The Right Stuff"
Survivor on CBS at 8:00pm ET. 90 minute 30th season premiere.
Empire on Fox at 9:01pm ET. The longer I watch this show, the more I fall in love with Cookie. Her rough edges from the first couple episodes are smoothing out and last episode she handled a business setback in an amazing way; she immediately took responsibility, apologized, and came up with a plan to handle it instead of scrambling to cover her own ass. She may have spent 17 years in prison, but I know MBA holders who can’t manage screw-ups with that much grace. And not only is she amazing, but the only time Lucious is actually interesting is when Cookie is on screen with him. Taraji P. Henson is carrying this show on her shoulders like one of Cookie’s luxurious furs.
The Amazing Race on CBS at 9:30pm ET. 90 minute 26th season premiere. So the theme of this season is long-term couples versus some couples that just met. I feel like using The Amazing Race as an early relationship test is a great way to find out that you should either get married or split up the minute it’s all over. As far as the long-term couples, one of them is Jonathan Night from New Kids on the Block and his partner of seven years, Harley Rodriguez. For the, like, two 30-something women whose childhood dreams I’ve just shattered, I am very sorry.
The Americans on FX at 10:00pm ET.
Catfish on MTV at 10:00pm ET. Fourth season premiere.
Genevieve Burgess enjoys taking business lessons from a character who went to a family dinner in a merrywidow.
