Totally Off the Grid. Except for All that Camera Equipment.
American Ninja Warrior on NBC at 8:00pm ET.
Requiem for the Dead: American Spring 2014 on HBO at 9:00pm ET. This documentary singles out the three months of spring in 2014 and looks closely at the lives of about a dozen people who were killed by guns during that time. About 8,000 people total were killed that spring. The dates were chosen at random. The killings profiled include murders, suicides, accidents, and bystanders to other crimes.
The Woodsmen on History at 9:00pm ET. Series premiere. This is about a group of rugged survivalists living off the land in the Pacific Northwest in shelters they’ve built in the trees. So, basically, this is like porn for that guy you know who went camping one weekend and has been talking about “getting off the grid” and “cutting out all this superficial bullshit and getting back to nature” ever since. Also, while the guys in the trees may be survivalists and living on only what they forage, hunt, or barter, I do wonder what happens when that runs up agains the union rules regarding the care and keeping of the crews for these shows. When craft services shows up do these guys just fade off into the forest like timid deer?
Murder in the First on TNT at 10:00pm ET.
The Whispers on ABC at 10:01pm ET.
Genevieve Burgess is skeptical of any rugged, salt of the earth survivalist who’s willing to put up with a camera crew following him around.
