Californication on Showtime at 9:30pm ET. Series finale.

The Leftovers on HBO at 10:00pm ET. 75-minute series premiere. HBO’s new series about a rapture-like event and the effect it has on the people who are left behind. The commercials seem to have a vibe not dissimilar from Les Revanants in that it’s less about the event itself and more about the human cost that such a supernatural event would have on the survivors. I’m planning on giving it a shot, if for no other reason than there’s a Game of Thrones shaped hole in my Sunday nights right now, and this looks compelling enough to fill it.

Penny Dreadful on Showtime at 10:00pm ET. First season finale.
