The Hottest Trend in TV This Year is Diversity. It Has Everything. Literally.

The Mentalist on CBS at 8:00pm ET. Two hour series finale. So we come to the end of the story of Patrick Jane and Theresa Lisbon. They’ve certainly come a long way from the small amount of information I’ve been able to gather from half-watching an episode every few months or so.

The Book of Negroes on BET at 9:00pm ET. Original mini-series finale.

Empire on Fox at 9:01pm ET. Naomi Campbell is back for this episode, and if her previous appearances are anything to go by, she’ll show up for about three minutes total and speak less than two dozen words. I will say that I am impressed with the development of the three brothers so far, it seems like they’re clicking into their characterizations and moving forward rather than explaining them. Cookie is still the highlight, but Jamal and Hakeem are getting to be interesting in and of themselves. Andre has a way to go, and Lucious is just… Lucious.

Black-ish on ABC at 9:31pm ET. Apparently this show came back last week but the site I use for listings didn’t bother mentioning it was the first season winter premiere or whatever they call it. Probably because of racism.

The Americans on FX at 10:00pm ET.

Genevieve Burgess has listed three shows with black leads and two that Cuba Gooding Jr. has been on tonight.
