New Game This Season: Is this Freddie Highmore From 'Bates Hotel' or 'The Good Doctor'?
The Voice on NBC at 8:00pm ET. 13th season premiere.
Young Sheldon on CBS at 8:30pm ET. Series premiere. The Big Bang Theory is also back for its eleventh season tonight. I find it odd that they seem to style young Sheldon like Martin Prince in all the promos I’ve seen, yet grown up Sheldon seems to exclusively wear comic book tee shirts. It’s almost like they’re playing on heavily ingrained stereotypes of what makes someone a geek or an oddball, using tired cultural signaling instead of actually bothering to rely on good characterization.
Me, Myself, and I on CBS at 9:30pm ET. Series premiere.
The Brave on NBC at 10:01pm ET. Series premiere. This is NBC’s new military drama with a team who “wield the world’s most advanced surveillance technology from headquarters in DC.” It sounds duller than dishwater, but hey, maybe it’s another NCIS in the making. Both shows like to use technology as, essentially, magic.
The Good Doctor on ABC at 10:01pm ET. Series premiere. Freddie Highmore, most recently seen on Bates Motel, is back as a young man with autism who is a savant and has become a surgeon at an incredibly young age. I’m sure this will be a sensitive and not at all bombastic portrayal of the struggles faced by those with autism, or another excuse to allow people to dismiss intelligence as a sign of some other intrinsic social flaw in a person. It’s like Monday Night is becoming the night of the unrelateable geniuses.
