NBC Now Striving to Become the International Broadcasting Corporation
Hollywood Game Night on NBC at 8:00pm ET.
Mythbusters on Discovery at 9:00pm ET. 14th season summer premiere. Your best excuse to watch people blow shit up in the name of “science” is back!
Welcome to Sweden on NBC at 9:01pm ET. Series premiere. This series is based on Greg Poehler’s experience of moving to Sweden to marry his Swedish girlfriend. And yes, that is Amy’s brother, and he stars in the show as well. Amy will be on the show portraying herself, as will Aubrey Plaza. The sitcom has already run in Sweden and been picked up for a second season there. The only other thing I have to contribute here is that I spent a little over a week in Stockholm a few years back and it was delightful. Of course, I was there at the end of July. I understand it’s slightly less delightful around December or so, and I’ve never been curious enough to confirm that.
Working the Engels on NBC at 9:30pm ET. Series premiere. Produced through a collaboration with Canadian broadcaster Global, this is a sitcom that already aired in Canada about a widow who attempts to keep her dead husband’s law firm running despite the fact that she is not qualified to practice law. I am noticing an interesting international flavor in NBC’s summer replacement series.
Beasts of the Bayou on Discovery at 10:00pm ET. Series premiere. A new show in the cryptozoology genre, where two guys with a fan boat head out into the bayou to try and track down unindentified creatures rumored to exist in the area. There seems to be a “good ol’ boys” vs. scientists bent to it as well.
Genevieve Burgess would be happy to go back to Sweden if anyone wants to sponsor a fact-finding mission for her.
