In Case You're Not Into Hollywood Patting Itself on the Back
The 89th Annual Academy Awards on ABC at 8:30pm ET. Obviously. Best reason to watch is to see if Lin Manuel-Miranda EGOTs and makes a speech that is guaranteed to be both adorable and heart breaking. Second best reason to watch is so you can get indignant with all the other people who are very convinced Moonlight should have won more awards even if, TECHNICALLY, you have not seen it yet. (I’m getting to it.)
Big Little Lies on HBO at 9:00pm ET.
The Walking Dead on AMC at 9:00pm ET.
Billions on Showtime at 10:00pm ET. It’s interesting to see that basically none of the network channels are running new shows tonight, but several cable and pay channels are. I guess that says something about who they thing the target audience for the Oscars are, or they just recognize that a great deal of their audience are watching on-demand or streaming anyway, and holding the airing (and thus, the streaming access) for a day would be more detrimental than counter-programming a glitzy awards show.
Last Week Tonight with John Oliver on HBO at 11:00pm ET.
