Prince Harry’s South Pole Heroes on NBC at 8:00pm ET. So, you know how sometimes you read history books about all these dudes headed out to parts unknown with a bunch of unfortunate staff and a vastly impractical list of cargo, and sometimes you wonder “Why doesn’t that happen anymore?” I mean, easy answer is that we’ve already sent people crawling over every corner of earth that humans can crawl on without immediately dying, but apparently part two is that you really just need someone to give them the impetus. I guess impetus was easier to come by back before cable, but Prince Harry and his merry band of misfits are here to rescue the trope of the gentleman explorer for modern times! The Prince himself led a team of a dozen injured service members on the 200 mile trek, but other teams were led by Alexander Skarsgard of naked vampire fame and Dominic West of McNulty fame. Originally a race to the pole, the fierce weather led to all three teams banding together in what would make for a wonderful textbook anecdote were there anything historically noteworthy about it. Sadly there is not. But it should make for a reasonably entertaining documentary.

Hoarding: Buried Alive on TLC at 9:00pm ET.

The Americans on FX at 10:00pm ET.
