American Ninja Warrior on NBC at 8:00pm ET.

Penn & Teller: Fool Us on The CW at 8:00pm ET. Second season premiere.

Return of the Great White Serial Killer on Discovery at 9:00pm ET. One of the repeated messages of Shark Week is how sharks aren’t that dangerous to people, and we’re a greater danger to them and all that. And it’s true, even in the years when there’s a slight spike in incidents. But then they air shows like this during Shark Week because a lot of shows about the biology and behavior of sharks doesn’t bring in the viewers like “killer sharks” do. So they put on shows about killer sharks, and bumper ads about how sharks aren’t really killers. It’s caused Shark Week to become the cultural event that it is today, but it sends kind of a mixed message.

Whose Line is it Anyway on The CW at 9:00pm ET. Tonight the special guest is… Penn & Teller. Right after the second season of their show premieres. I guess The CW is a fan of theme nights.

The Island on NBC at 10:01pm ET. First season finale.

Genevieve Burgess has never been scared of sharks, but will still be steering clear of North Carolina beaches this summer.
