Everyone Get Your E-Meters Ready UPDATE: The Internet Was Lying to Me
Dancing With the Stars on ABC at 8:00pm ET. 20th season premiere. As is my wont, I’m going to predict the winner of this season without watching a second of the show: Nastia Liukin.
Going Clear: Scientology and the Prison of Belief on HBO at 9:00pm ET. Going to be watching this, and it’s going to take a lot of effort not to make a vat of popcorn to go with it, because that seems thematically inappropriate for a show about a cult that takes emotional and financial advantage of its members. But Going Clear was an excellent book, and given how HBO has been killing it recently, I am very excited about this. EDITED: As mentioned below, the site I use for listings seems to insist this is on tonight while HBO says it’s airing on the 29th. I’m going to tune in tonight JUST IN CASE, but it’s probably not on. Now my whole night is ruined.
Jane the Virgin on The CW at 9:00pm ET.
Better Call Saul on AMC at 10:00pm ET.
The Returned on A&E at 10:00pm ET. I watched the first episode last week and it proved that while the makers of this have an understanding of how the original French series looks, they failed to grasp certain deeper aspects of the hold it had on viewers. The reaction of the older husband in particular annoyed me, and the loss of the original soundtrack has a huge effect. This episode is going to focus on Simon, and I’m already disappointed in the casting so I don’t see myself tuning in again.
Genevieve Burgess will also observe, again, that they are stretching the definition of “stars” pretty far this season.
