Empire on Fox at 9:01pm ET. I love this show so much, but I was joking with some friends today about the problem of Chekov’s fatal disease diagnosis which apparently adheres to completely different rules than Chekov’s gun. That is, that I can think of a few series off the top of my head that introduced a main character with a fatal illness in episode one, that finished out the series with the character alive and well right up to the last episode. So, forgive me if I’m not too worried about Lucious’s health in the near future.

The Americans on FX at 10:00pm ET.

Broadchurch on BBCA at 10:00pm ET. Second season premiere.

CSI: Cyber on CBS at 10:00pm ET. Series premiere. I guess CBS has been a little TOO successful with their endless parade of procedurals and has now had to move into the computer world for new content. This should be fine, as their target demographic is 80% people still using Internet Explorer at home. The only thing tempting me to watch this series is the fact that James Van Der Beek’s character is named “Elijah Mundo” and I am desperately hoping there’s an episode where someone responds to a question with “Exactamundo” and he goes “No. ELIJAH Mundo.” I can’t tell you why I want this, but it would thrill me down to my toes. My second favorite thing about this show is that Wikipedia and IMDB are in disagreement about the name of the character played by Charley Koontz. And Bow Wow is on the show. IT’S GONNA BE GREAT, GUYS!

Broad City on Comedy Central at 10:30pm ET.

Genevieve Burgess vividly remembers wondering if Unser was actually lying about the cancer to get a pity fuck from Gemma.
