Come On, Gary Sinise, We Just Got You Off Procedural TV
Survivor on CBS at 8:00pm ET.
black-ish on ABC at 9:31pm ET.
The Americans on FX at 10:00pm ET. Fourth season premiere. So, did the filming of this overlap with Kerri Russell’s pregnancy? Are we going to see how they ineptly hide a pregnancy on a character who’s typically very physically active? Spotting “hidden” pregnancies is always fun TV. But then I’d have to start watching again and I’m seasons behind. Decisions, decisions.
Criminal Minds: Beyond Borders on CBS at 10:00pm ET. Series premiere. The original Criminal Minds is something of a guilty pleasure of mine, but I don’t think I can manage this one for the simple reason that the FBI cannot investigate “beyond borders.” The FBI tracks federal crime within the United States. There’s typically a moment in a Criminal Minds episode where it’s explicitly stated that the FBI has been invited into the local investigation, or explained why they have jurisdiction. That would never happen anywhere outside the US. I’m sure there will be some hand-wavy explanation, but apparently this is where my suspension of disbelief with criminal procedurals fails. Heavy duty lab work back in a few hours? Sure! Detectives routinely visiting crime scenes in tank tops and heels? Why not. Trained law enforcement officers touching and moving evidence willy-nilly without documenting it? A fun drinking game! Jurisdictional issues? OH HELL NO.
Nashville on ABC at 10:00pm ET. Fourth season spring premiere.
