Can't We Get Just Creepy Robots Instead of Creepy Lady Robots?
BET Awards 2015 on BET at 8:00pm ET. I’m not seeing a host listed, but they’ve got a pretty great line up of performers including Janelle Monae and Gary Clark Jr.
Humans on AMC at 9:00pm ET. Series premiere. This is that new series about A.I robots that look like people that come live in people’s homes. While I don’t doubt that we’ll get to a point where A.I can take on household tasks like that, I’ve always found it kind of narcissistic that we assume they should be designed to look human. That was actually one of the things I really liked about Interstellar, the robots looked like robots even if they sounded like people. I realize this is probably 90% “its easier to cast people to play robots than make robots” but that just means it’s lazy rather than unimgainative.
Nurse Jackie on Showtime at 9:00pm ET. Series finale.
True Detective on HBO at 9:00pm ET. When I watched the season premiere last week I asked Twitter when HBO would stop beating around the bush and just rename the show Toxic Masculinity: The Series. I’ll see if that holds into this week. While I don’t think the first season was perfect, I don’t remember the premiere being so explain-y or so unrelentingly grim. But maybe that was just because McCounaughey and Harrelson had a ton of natural chemistry together and managed to bring out the humor in their interactions.
Falling Skies on TNT at 10:00pm ET. Fifth season premiere.
Genevieve Burgess wonders how all these spectacularly screwed up people manage to find and hold down jobs as detectives at all.
