Beat Shazam on Fox at 8:00pm ET. First season finale.

Thursday Night Football: Houston Texans at Cincinnati Bengals on NFL Network at 8:25pm ET. 11th season premiere. Football seems to have settled into only being on on the correct nights but I’m sure they’re just trying to lull me into complacency before screwing it all up again. It won’t happen. I’m vigilant.

ABC News Special: Truth & Lies: The Murder of Laci Peterson on ABC at 9:00pm ET. These sort of programs always feel really ghoulish to me. Especially in the age of social media where I’ve heard that some of these families continue to be harassed by amateur detectives or enthusiasts while trying to deal with the loss of a loved one.

Better Things on FX at 10:00pm ET. Second season premiere. I know a lot of people think very highly of this show. I’ve watched a couple episodes and while I can admire the way it leans into the more uncomfortable parts of life I also tend to watch television to escape the uncomfortable parts of every day life via watching people who have it worse (most crime dramas) or things that are inherently unrealistic and thus escapist. If I want to wallow in the every day inadequacies of the modern human existence, I can do that on my own.

Zoo on CBS at 10:00pm ET.
