5 Shows After Dark: Maybe This Time It Stands For "The Big CRY"
“The Goodwin Games” on Fox at 8:30pm ET. Series premiere. This is a series where a set of siblings who failed to live up to their father’s vision for them stand to inherit $23 million after his death, but only if they follow a specific set of rules and challenges set forth in his will designed to bring them back to who he thinks they should be. I’m nearly 100% certain it’s been proven that these kind of weird hoops and requirements in wills aren’t ever legally enforceable, but my real concern here is how you drag this concept out for longer than a couple seasons. Maybe they’ll never have to figure that part out.
“American Masters: Mel Brooks” on PBS at 9:00pm ET.
“Bates Motel” on A&E at 10:00pm ET. First season finale.
“The Big C” on Showtime at 10:00pm ET. Series finale. The internet indicates it’s going to be a rough one, so have your tissues ready.
“Motive” on ABC at 10:01pm ET. Series premiere. Another procedural that’s going to throw a set of “quirks” at you and pretend that makes them different from all the other procedurals. In this one, you see the crime happen and then you watch the detectives try and figure out what the motive is even though you already know it! Crazy, right? Not like something that’s been done on “Law & Order”, “Law & Order: SVU”, “CSI: Assorted”, “Criminal Minds”, “Castle”, “The Mentalist”, “Hawaii Five-0” or whatever your favorite current or past police procedural show is. I guess it’s cheaper to just make the same show over and over again than it is to bother supporting new shows that might need some help finding their audiences. Not like ABC would know anything about that.
Genevieve Burgess has watched at least a handful of episodes of all the of the above listed procedurals and more that she didn’t list so she doesn’t really have room to complain.
