5 Shows After Dark: Looks Pretty Normal to Me

“19 Kids and Counting” on TLC at 9:00pm ET. One hour seventh season premiere.

“The Mindy Project” on Fox at 9:30pm ET. This show is the latest show in the category of “shows where the main character is constantly bitching about their lack of a love life but also dating someone new every other episode”. It’s kind of a wordy title, probably why it never caught on.

“The Agony and the Ecstasy of Phil Spector” on BBCA at 9:00pm ET. Huh. With the HBO movie that’s several hours of recent television dedicated to Phil Spector. That trial was four years ago now, and he’s in prison so I’m not sure where all this is coming from. Don’t we have other media friendly trials to get dramatized or picked over?

“The New Normal” on NBC at 9:00pm ET. Two episodes back to back, and the second episode is the first season finale. I’ve seen the whole season and it’s grown a lot. The characters are better developed and used, the nine year old girl doesn’t sound like a 30 something Brooklyn resident anymore, and they’ve given Ellen Barkin something to do besides spouting hateful insults. There’s a lot of things I’m still frustrated by, but I hope the series gets another season to stretch its legs a little more.

“Justified” on FX at 10:00pm ET. Fourth season finale.

Genevieve Burgess thinks there’s really no such thing as a “normal” family.
