Getting Ready for Olympics Debates Like

2018 Winter Olympics on NBC at 8:00pm ET. I’m usually a big fan of the Olympics in the sense that I enjoy spectacle and can pay attention to sports for like, three weeks MAXIMUM before I start to get bored with them. But it’s going to be hard this year with the scandal in US Gymnastics (I know gymnastics is not in the winter Olympics, but it’s part of the Olympics) and having seen the documentary Icarus, which lays out in grim detail the long history of steroid abuse by athletes from Russia that’s being studiously ignored. I feel like I’ll probably still watch, but focus on unusual sports where the US and Russia aren’t favored. I am aware that it’s not NEW information that the IOC is a corrupt organization that sows corruption. That doesn’t take away the fun of getting to watch people do really cool things with their bodies, but it does place that in a more complicated context. ANYWAY, the opening ceremonies are airing tomorrow, this is just some of the preliminary coverage of qualifying events. Gonna be an interesting year for coverage since South Korea is about 14 hours ahead of East Coast time, so NBC has even more time to fuck around with the scheduling and there’s an even greater chance the internet will spoil events long before they air.

RuPaul’s Drag Race All Stars on VH1 at 8:00pm ET.

Supernatural on The CW at 8:00pm ET.

Arrow on The CW at 9:00pm ET.

Portlandia on IFC at 10:00pm ET.
