“The Vampire Diaries” on The CW at 8:00pm ET. Fourth season winter premiere.
“Parks and Recreation” on NBC at 8:30pm ET. Fifth season winter premiere.
“Archer” on FX at 10:00pm ET. Fourth season premiere. WOOOOOOOOOO! God, I still need to find a sound clip of Archer going “Lana… Lana… Lana! LANA LAAAAANNNNNAAAAAAA” to use as my text message alert.
“King of the Nerds” on TBS at 10:00pm ET. Series premiere. It’s my personal belief that the term “nerd” has lost all meaning in popular culture and should be abandoned by the people most likely to describe themselves that way. Yeah, it sucks if someone dismisses you out of hand because you mention playing Magic: The Gathering on your OKCupid profile. I’m betting some of you also dismiss people out of hand because they watch things like “Here Comes Honey Boo Boo” or profess a liking for The Olive Garden. We’ve all got our moments of cultural snobbery. The Avengers was the biggest movie of the year, “Game of Thrones” is a television juggernaut, and the researchers at NASA’s Johnson Space Center made a Gangnam style parody. Nerds are just another piece in the giant pop culture stew, being painted with the same broad brush every stereotype you see in the media has been. Yeah, the depiction of nerds on “The Big Bang Theory” is something that raises a lot of your hackles. I’m sure there’s a lot of cheerleaders who haven’t been thrilled with their particular set of media-assigned stereotypes for the last few decades too. Now you’ve got that in common. Take your identity back from marketers.
“Suits” on USA at 10:00pm ET. Second season winter premiere. I understand that this is a good show now? Maybe I’ll have to look into it.
Genevieve Burgess will be writing the date wrong for the next two months.
