Still Uncast 'Captain Marvel' Gets Two Female Writers and Possibly a Director

In an interesting turn of events, just as news was breaking that Game of Thrones, Breaking Bad and Better Call Saul director, Michelle MacLaren dropped out of directing the Wonder Woman film, Marvel announced they’d hired two familiar female writers for Captain Marvel. Guardians of the Galaxy’s Nicole Perlman and Inside Out’s Meg LeFauve will write the screenplay for the superhero film, and rumor has it that the newly-free MacLaren will helm the project. Honestly, can we imagine a more perfect trio to deliver the female-led Marvel film? (No!) In case you’d forgotten, Perlman’s is the mind that plucked Guardians out of a group of undeveloped Marvel properties; she had a major role in bringing that film to life.

Also interesting was this MTV interview with Marvel’s Kevin Feige, who clarifies two key Captain Marvel rumors that have been floating around for a while now. First, Carol Danvers was indeed in the early Avengers: Age of Ultron scripts, but that idea was eventually scrapped. Second, contrary to the many times we’ve heard Marvel has chosen an actress to head up Captain Marvel, in fact, they have not. Feige says “In terms of finding the actress, it’s still in very early stages. It’s about finding writers right now.”

(Also discussed, Spiderman, Doctor Strange, Thor: Ragnarok, Captain America: Civil War, possible additions or shifts within Phase III, and how Avengers: Infinity War will be split.)

Does this mean Katee Sackhoff might still have a shot? Personally, my fear is that the Marvel powers that be have decided they want to go with a younger actress. And if that’s the case, before they pull a fast one, I’ll throw out one other suggestion. And before you scream, yes — she’s a little green, but with some refinement, I think she could pull it off:

Still, we all know this *should* be Katee’s role.
