Some of you may have recognized him immediately, while it may have nagged at others for a few scenes, but if you didn’t catch it that was indeed Devon Gummersall who played Peggy’s blind date in “Severance,” tonight’s episode of Mad Men. Gummersall, of course, is best known as Brian Krakow in My So Called Life.
Or, for others, as Zach, the guy who raped Julie in Felicity. AND I’LL NEVER FORGIVE HIM FOR IT.
I had no idea he could pull off charming loser, as he did on Mad Men. Bearded Devon Gummersall also pulled off douchebag villain in an episode of the CW’s iZombie earlier this week. It’s good to regularly see him on TV again.
Of course, it’s not the first time that Matthew Weiner has pulled from the 90’s TV actor pool. Neve Campbell (Party of Five) was in the 7A season premiere, Linda Cardellini (Freaks and Geeks, had an arc, Kellie Martin (Life Goes On), Ted McGinley (Married … with Children), Alexis Bledel (Gilmore Girls) and even Dennis Haskins (Mr Belding in Saved by the Bell) have also made appearances on the series. It’s not the first actor from My So Called Life to appear, either. Bess Armstrong — who played Angela Chase’s mom — once dropped acid with Roger Sterling.
Meanwhile, Sarah will be by later with a full recap of the Mad Men season premiere.
