After tackling what the news media described as “disturbing, horrible, horrible violent imagery” that was the stupid truck decal of Joe Biden hog-tied reposted by DJT, Jon Stewart turned his attention to AI this week. Specifically, the threat that AI poses to jobs. The investors and oligarchies behind AI are not shy about AI’s ability to replace workers. However, they’re not addressing the problem of what to do with humanity once it’s unemployed.

“We have been through technological advances before and they all have promised the utopian life without drudgery,” he said. “And the reality is they come for our jobs.”

I’m not sure what Stewart is worried about. Guys like Sam Altman say that AI will be able to “easily” solve the climate crisis and cure disease. If AI can “easily” solve the two biggest threats to humanity, surely AI can figure out how to maintain a stable economy with a robust workforce without any actual jobs. Right?

Jon Stewart’s weekly editions of The Daily Show have basically turned into his Apple TV+ show: He addresses one major issue with The Daily Show format, and then he follows it up with a long-form interview with someone who can speak to that issue. Here, he brought in Federal Trade Commission Chair Lina Khan to talk about big tech monopolies and the threat of AI. Interestingly, he also adds, Apple would not let Stewart interview Lina Khan about big tech monopolies or do a segment on AI, which is part of what ultimately led to Stewart ending his Apple TV+ show. It has turned into a win-win for everyone: Stewart still gets to do his thing, only now it’s in front of a bigger audience; he also boosts the overall audience for The Daily Show; and he gets to stick it to Big Tech.

Also, if Lina Khan looks young to you, it’s because she is: She was appointed the head of the FTC at the age of 32. Can she run for President?
