Bryan Fuller Teases 'Hannibal' Season 3 Details, Including an Opening Episode Surprise

The third season of Hannibal doesn’t start until June and it’s still only March, but showrunner Bryan Fuller knows just how to keep us in the game. In thanks for fans who voted in a poll to bring back (reboot) Pushing Daisies (up against Firefly), he’d promised to tweet an interesting premiere tidbit, then went above and beyond.

Splice and Hannibal season 2 (“Naka-Choko, Su-zakana”) director, Vinceno Natali is directing multiple season 3 episodes, including the first three.

The Descent and Game of Thrones (“The Watchers on the Wall, Blackwater”) director Neil Marshall will direct episode 8, “The Great Red Dragon.”

Fuller shared a little of the concept art for RICHARD MO-FO-IN’ ARMITAGE’S Francis Dolarhyde…

And finally, the premiere surprise tidbit; there are four time periods covered in the season opener. A first guess: flashback to how Hannibal got Bedelia to come on the plane, the present — with Bedelia and Hannibal in Italy, possibly a flashback involving Chiyo, but more likely a flash-forward of Will visiting her (seen in the trailer), or Will on the mend in the hospital. The fourth? Hmm…Fuller has said the season will begin with Hannibal and Bedelia on the run, and that we won’t find out exactly who survived the season 2 finale in the first episode (clearly Jack and Will are alive), so unless it’s something involving Mason and Margot Verger (I don’t think we’re getting Dolarhyde right away), I’m uncertain about what/who the last time period involves.

Finally, check out this amusing mash-up, Disney’s Bedelia and the Beast.

Hannibal returns June 4th.
