I Swear By It: After Sun Edition

With summer and its vacations approaching, many of you will be kicking back and catching some rays. But sometimes no matter how careful you are about religiously applying skin-saving sun tan lotion, shit happens. Maybe that fancy brand that claims it’s waterproof went poof! Maybe you’re surprised to learn your cousin’s summer wedding isn’t in a church, but rather is an outdoor service in the beating sun, and by the way the start has been delayed for an hour. Cool cool.

So now your skin resembles that of a savagely boiled lobster. You look in the mirror and wince not only because you’ve never really been a fan of the color blood blister, but also because you can vividly imagine the spiky jolts of pain that will be yours in the coming days as your skin cracks, peels, and heals. But this is a fate you can avoid. Listen to me, your chronically pale and thereby prone to burning beauty-guide.

Get Burt’s Bees After Sun Soother. Apply much like you would Aquafor to a new tattoo: keep it softly slathered, never let the healing skin get dry.

By now, you probably think this is a Sponsored post, and that I’m writing this for those sweet BB bucks. But 1) a sponsored post will always boast such a label, 2) Pajiba doesn’t do sponsored posts, and 3) I just genuinely recommend this product.

The example above with the wedding? Mine. I wore a darling sundress that exposed my arms, and a healthy dose of my chest and face to the beating relentless summer sun. Unaware I’d be outside, I had no sunscreen on, and so I was cooked. By the time the reception ended, my skin was sizzling to the touch and alarmingly red. Thankfully, I’d brought several bottles of Burt’s Bees After Sun Soother. (It used to be hard to come by in my hometown, so I functioned as a sort-of lotion mule, transporting in big city bottles at every opportunity.) I generously applied the lotion, let it sink in, and reapplied anytime my skin felt dry. The stuff is magic.

My skin never cracked. It never peeled. There was no pain. And the red paled to faint wisp of “tan.” (I am not one of those people who has a burn turn to a rich tan, never have been.) I’ve used it for every bit of sunburn since, and readily recommend to any friend who posts a scorched selfie. It’s easy. It’s painless. It’s an essential for your beach bag this summer.
