We’re getting very close to the last season of Game of Thrones which starts next weekend on Sunday the 14th. And what does it look like we can expect in this last season? Mostly death and destruction if the teaser trailer and images released yesterday are accurate.

This does not make things look good for any of our characters! In fact as the camera pans across the snowy, empty, and broken Winterfell we can see artifacts from all of the main characters littering the ground, some in worse shape than others. We see Tryion’s Hand of the Queen pin:
Needle appears to have been abandoned in a store room:
And then a pan over the ramparts shows a feather drifting down. The feather looks like the one that was sitting on Lyanna’s tomb which Sansa was seen holding.
Below the ramparts is a wheel which I’ve seen interpreted as a reference to Daenerys’s promise to “break the wheel.” Except that the wheel is situated directly above the rest of Bran’s chair, which has been abandoned at the bottom of a staircase.
We then pan across the interior courtyard spotting Jaime’s golden hand:
As well as Dany’s dragon chain:
Finally we end on Longclaw, lying in the snow with blood under the hilt?
These dire images fit with the other image that HBO has released in advance of the season, showing most of the still surviving characters frozen in the snow.

How worried should we be about this? At least a little worried! Especially after watching this Jimmy Fallon clip with Maisie Williams:

OK, that was a little mean of me. We do know that there are only six episodes this coming season. We also know that the Battle of Winterfell episode is directed by Miguel Sapochinik, who directs episodes 3 and 5 this season. If I had to guess, story-wise, where this battle would fall I’d say it’s going to be the third episode rather than the 5th episode. Everyone’s heading to Winterfell already and will be there by the start of the season, the dead are coming on fast. It wouldn’t make sense to drag out four full episodes before the battle. Which means that some of our characters will probably die there, but not all of them. And once they’re dead?
If, as we expect, the Night King makes ice zombies out of some of our favorite heroes this season, which #GameOfThrones character would it pain you the most to see zombified? https://t.co/JAkpcgZAeG pic.twitter.com/LUpYv2PkCs

It’s gonna get ROUGH. Fortunately, to help us all through it, there are some new cross-promotions coming. Like this one from Oreos that includes a new Winterfell made entirely of cookies:

As well as some new makeup from Urban Decay to cover up all those tear-stains. Look, they even have little eyeshadow brush versions of Needle and Longclaw!

I am definitely not emotionally ready for this season.
