I thought I was traumatized when I saw Daniel Radcliffe’s naked ass on Broadway, or realized Emma Watson FOR REAL was no longer Hermione Granger, but I’m wholly unprepared to be reading about Game of Thrones’ Maisie Williams doing a goddamned sex scene. Was it not bad enough we had to watch Ramsay do that thing to Sansa; now our little Arry is having MOVIE SEX? Somebody hold me!

Let’s try to get through this together.

Williams stars alongside Greta Scacchi, Monica Dolan, Maxine Peake, Mathew Baynton and Florence Pugh in Carol Morley’s The Falling, a film that takes place at an English boarding school, and finds Williams’ character, Lydia a little obsessed with her friend and fellow student, Abbie (Pugh). Abbie’s exploring her sexuality; naturally Lydia becomes so inclined, and well, that’s when the whole thing goes off the rails, forcing us to deal with this idea of…well, I can’t even say it again.

At the boarding school, there’s also some strange phenomenon involving mass “fainting spells” (aka hysteria, aka girls just wanna have se-ex), but never mind that because this film sex thing was just as awkward for Williams as it is for us. Speaking with Vulture, the 18 year old…

uh, yeah — the 18 year old actress noted that since it was her first such scene, she and her onscreen partner, actor Joe Cole (Peaky Blinders) got to know each other a little beforehand:

“It was extremely awkward! But Joe was very sensitive to the fact that I had never done a scene like this before, and it was great to work with someone who was so considerate of that. We went out for a couple of lunches and stuff just to get to know each other, and we had days of rehearsal where we’d get to know our characters and spend a couple of hours with each other. So I knew him quite well, and we got along quite well. It all paid off in the end.”

It all paid off in the end.

Williams was also kinda/sorta pranked by her director and Maxine Peake the actress who played her character’s mother:

“Carol, our director, told Maxine not to communicate with me and to keep her distance, so she wouldn’t create a relationship with me — because within the story, our characters don’t have a relationship. But Carol hadn’t told me she was going to do this! So here I am, trying to make contact with Maxine every single day, trying to make it work, and her never giving anything back. I’d be like, ‘How was your day?’ and she’d be like, ‘Mmmm,’ and walk away. Throughout the shoot I was so miserable because I thought she hated me. I thought all the adults hated me, and I had no idea why. I was just trying to prove myself and be a good actress.”

Whew, that’s a whole lot to go through in a single film, not to mention what she’s endured on GoT. I’m thinking maybe it’s time for something a little lighter, Maisie?

Moving right along, here are some very ***SPOILERISH SPOILERY***Game of Thrones Season 6 filming PHOTOS of Maisie as the also-growing-up-way-too-quickly Arya. Close your eyes if you don’t want to see!

Williams was spotted wading into Northern Ireland’s Carnlough Harbour:

For the non-readers wondering if Arya will remain painfully blind in the next season, unless every single shot caught Williams with her eyes closed, I think you have your answer…

The Falling is out now in limited theaters and VOD (after having premiered long ago in the UK); trailer here.
