The Kid Who Plays King Tommen Reflects On His Disturbing 'Game of Thrones' Sex Scene

The sex scene between King Tommen (played by 16-year-old Dean-Charles Chapman) and Queen Margaery (played by 33-year-old Natalie Dormer) may not have looked that racy onscreen during last Sunday night’s Game of Thrones episode, but try and picture yourself as a teenage boy trying to act in the presence of a naked Natalie Dormer. My 16 year old self broke into a cold sweat whenever I saw Kelly LeBrock on my television, so I can only imagine what it might have been like for Chapman, although I’m not so sure that I would’ve called it “disturbing,” as he did in an interview with MTV:

“It was very disturbing. Normally when my stuff’s on the telly, I don’t watch my own bits (Editor’s Note: WORD CHOICE, KID). But this was such a big scene for my character, so I checked it out… I found out about that scene by reading the script, and I was really shocked. I didn’t think it would have gone down like that on screen. I was nervous to just be pretend marrying Natalie Dormer.”

Apparently, there was no such sex scene in the book because King Tommen was much younger, buthe laws that might prohibit underage actors from appearing nude on screen apparently do not extend to preventing underage actors from appearing onscreen with other nude characters.

You also have to know that this took much longer than the actual three-minute scene. I’m sure it was a half-day shoot, but according to Chapman, Dormer was a pro and made him feel very comfortable with it, and only those who were absolutely necessary remained behind the scenes during the shoot.

“It’s pretty weird,” he continued. “I only had my top off; underneath the quilt I had trackies on and stuff. So that was all good; I was all good. But Natalie — I pat her on the back for what she did.”

Just wait until she puts her shirt back on before you go patting any backs, kid.

Interestingly, Dormer did object last year to doing a seduction scene with King Tommen that was in George R.R. Martin’s books because … icky. But I guess that recasting the actor with a 16 year old made it OK.

In the meantime, Chapman has high hopes for his character:

“I think he’s just going to become a maniac one day and kill everybody,” Chapman joked. “That’s what I’m hoping for — the biggest story twist of all time. No, but I hope he stands up to Cersei or Margaery one day. I think he will.”

Dude, you’ll be lucky if you outlive your cat.
