We’re about five weeks away from the premiere of the fifth season of Game of Thrones and information about this season is starting to fall out in dribs and drabs. There was the “Day in the Life” documentary special that showed us some new locations and a few shots of new characters. We got a look at some new Dornish weapons and warriors that we have to look forward to, and now we’ve got titles for the first four episodes of the season as well as synopses for the first three. We will be starting this season with:

Episode 501, “The Wars To Come”: The Wars to Come”: Cersei and Jaime adjust to a world without Tywin. Varys reveals a conspiracy to Tyrion. Dany faces a new threat to her rule. Jon is caught between two kings. (Written by David Benioff & D. B. Weiss; directed by Michael Slovis.)

Episode 502, “The House of Black and White”: “The House of Black and White”: Arya arrives in Braavos. Pod and Brienne run into trouble on the road. Cersei fears for her daughter’s safety in Dorne as Ellaria Sand seeks revenge for Oberyn’s death. Stannis tempts Jon. An adviser tempts Dany. (Written by David Benioff & D. B. Weiss; directed by Michael Slovis.)

Episode 503, “High Sparrow”: In Braavos, Arya sees the Many-Faced God. In King’s Landing, Queen Margaery enjoys her new husband. Tyrion and Varys walk the Long Bridge of Volantis. (Written by David Benioff & D. B. Weiss; directed by Mark Mylod.)

Episode 504: “The Sons of the Harpy”

For the book readers out there, it definitely looks like they’re shortening the time between events. I can remember a few prolonged journeys that don’t seem to be making an appearance on TV. That’s not surprising, as long periods of internal monologue while observing scenery work better in books than on television. I am excited, and wary, but mostly excited.
