Before you ask, no. Starbucks Dragon Drink was not the beverage shown in Sunday’s Game of Thrones. Really missed a great opportunity though.

Along with the return of the Starbucks S’mores Frappuccino at the beginning of May, the coffee giant released a new beverage called Dragon Drink. The Dragon Drink is a mellower version of an existing drink, Mango Dragonfruit Refreshers, a mix of the two listed fruits, some grape juice, and green coffee flavor. I’ve had it many times and it is wonderful.

The Dragon Drink was apparently a creation of customers adding coconut milk to the Mango Dragonfruit Refreshers to imitate the Pink Drink, leading Starbucks to add Dragon Drink to their permanent menu as of now. The coconut milk adds a slight creaminess and tones down the mango and dragonfruit flavors but in a very good way.

The first Dragon Drink I had was at an airport Starbucks in Maine on Sunday. I found the drink to be very satisfying, even if the barista made it 87 percent ice to 13 percent actual drink. I was prepared to review it based on this purchase until I realized it may have been missing the coconut milk entirely.

To ensure a proper review, I had to take a second taste. I also wanted to specify light ice on the second go around.

Today I hit up my favorite store — Target — and the barista there made me a proper Dragon Drink, which I enjoyed during my shopping trip. It’s a pleasing, light drink with just a tinge of caffeine, which is great for not vibrating through space and time. Perhaps the best part is the outstanding color of the Dragon Drink, a purplish-pink with floating chunks of delicious dragonfruit just begging to be doused with flavored water later for Second Drink. I love my Second Drink almost as much as First Drink, because I’m thrifty that way.

My odd quirks aside, the Dragon Drink is a fantastically photogenic beverage that also tastes amazing. It’s going into my Starbucks rotation even if it doesn’t have cinnamon-flavored foam, sugar crystals that look like dragon scales, or any other insane addition.
