The “Snyder Cut” of Justice League is almost upon us and with it comes the hype machine. Just yesterday we saw the villain, Steppenwolf, fighting off hordes of Amazons, and today we get a look at a certain Clown Prince of Crime being played by Jared Leto, thanks to Vanity Fair. The Joker is back and, y’all, he looks friggin’ scary!

Leto first played the famous Batman enemy in the 2016 version of Suicide Squad. I’m a fan of DC’s movies (I heart BvS) and yet even I was a little let down by Suicide Squad. Despite all the right ingredients it just didn’t land, and depending on who you ask, that had a lot to do with behind the scenes… shenanigans. However, Leto as the Joker was far from my least favorite part of the movie. Sure, the performance was a little rough around the edges, but I appreciated the big swings he was taking in the role.

I’m always a fan of seeing something different onscreen. Superhero comics have a wonderful history of being changed by their adaptations and vice versa. Heck, Kryptonite was created for the Superman radio show and Mr. Freeze was given new life by Batman: The Animated Series. Ok, defense of changes from page to screen over, let’s get to the new Leto pics.

Pretty spooky, right?! If you want to find out how/why the Joker is appearing in Snyder’s Justice League you can check the Vanity Fair article, but I’ll leave this piece spoiler free. All I will say is the context sounds very exciting and Snyder claims that the Joker was the only element added to the film during reshoots.

Here we see a much darker take on the character. No tattoos or big fur coats, just menace. I understand if that may not be up everyone’s alley, but I’m certainly excited. Seeing Snyder’s finished version of the film is something I never thought would happen, and every reveal brings it that much closer and makes me that much more amped!
