He came. He sang. He irritated. The Disney short “Olaf’s Frozen Adventure,” transformed the snowman who loves warm hugs into the enemy of parents across the country, taking them and their restless children hostage for 22 minutes ahead of Coco. But Olaf’s reign of frustration will end on December 8th.

Mashable reports Disney is pulling the short from theaters this Friday, and is urging theaters to fill up all that free time with more screenings of their latest Pixar release.

Now, many have jumped to a conclusion that this is in response to the immediate and raucous response from audiences, who overwhelming abhorred “Olaf’s Frozen Adventure.” However, EW says the short was always intended to be ahead of Coco for a limited time, confirmed by Disney. The site points to advertising for proof.

However, the promo materials never declared how limited a time. So, it is possible the poor reaction from audiences convinced the studio to shorten the short’s run before any more damage could be done to the Frozen brand. After all, we’ve got Frozen 2 coming in 2019.

If you’re curious what all the hubbub is all about, there’s a surprising amount of the short available online. Here’s the trailer:
