The Joker origin movie continues to baffle us. Directed by The Hangover 1-3 helmer Todd Phillips, the yet-to-be-titled film will star Joaquin Phoenix as the Joker, and co-star Marc Maron, who famously disdains superhero movies. Variety says it’ll maybe co-star Rober De Niro as a talk show host, who drives an average man to Clown Prince of Crime madness. And it won’t tie into the DCEU or end Jared Leto’s work as the Hot Topic version of the Joker. What does it all mean? We still have no idea. The plot is under wraps, but Phillips threw out another nonsensical piece of the puzzle yesterday when he released the first official image of his out-of-costume Joker, and called him “Arthur.”
Dustin shared the first official image in PLove.

Also online is this footage, in which a cigarette-smoking Phoenix approaches a clown on the street, laughs at him and then plucks off his red nose.

So what’re people saying about the latest version of Batman’s most iconic nemesis? We took to Twitter to find out.
This is the first look at Joaquin Phoenix as The Joker. It’s also the second look at Javier Bardem in “No Country For Old Men” https://t.co/PMY3Oo9u0q

Y’all are gonna absolutely destroy Jered Leto when the Joaquin Phoenix Joker film comes out and I’m honestly not ready for it.

I have a feeling Joaquin Phoenix will challenge Heath Ledger's performance as The Joker. Maybe, just maybe, a better one.

The Joker is like Colonel Sanders for dramatic actors.

would really wish people would stop calling those joker pics "iconic"

its fucking Joaquin Phoenix in a sweater for fuck sake.
Well since most of the fandom is asleep can I just say how overwhelming boring these joker images are? Like I don’t get the hype from these pics at all. I’m interested in the movie but these images? Like he’s just a creepy dude walking down the street..that’s literally it

Say no more.
I'm already in the theatre.
Apparently, in the forthcoming #Joker movie, the Joker’s real name is Arthur Fleck. As in A. Fleck. Now THAT’S funny. https://t.co/WbNT8gW15N

This Joker movie is scheduled to hit theaters October 4, 2019. I can’t wait. Not so much for the movie, but for TK, our dedicated superhero movie-reviewing overlord, to have to be subjected to it.
