This week we’ve seen a flurry of big trailers dropping, from the controversial crime drama Hustlers to the Brad Pitt-fronted space odyssey Ad Astra, the sinister clown thriller It Chapter Two, the Top Gun sequel that’s somehow a real thing, and whatever Kevin Smith has talked his famous friends into now. But the trailer that broke the internet and snapped our minds was undoubtedly the absolute insanity of Cats.
Directed by Tom Hooper, Cats features an all-star cast that includes Idris Elba, Rebel Wilson, Judi Dench, Ian McKellen, James Corden, Jennifer Hudson, Jason Derulo, and Taylor Swift. Based on Andrew Lloyd Webber’s long-running Broadway musical, the film also boasts a bold new take on the look of its titular creatures. Forget the bodysuits and facepaint from the stage show. Hooper’s Cats has allegedly groundbreaking “digital fur technology” that was teased in a previous behind-the-scenes featurette. But even with warning, the world was not ready for the new face of Cats.
Here’s how Twitter reacted to the look of Cats’ feline-ified stars.

I don't know what I expected from CATS' "digital fur technology" but the short answer is NOT this.

That "digital fur technology" line from the behind the scenes video is even funnier now that we can see how unnervingly smooth many of the characters are.

Some liked it!
CATS is flashy and weird and somehow appealing anyway and the trailer is all of those things! Judge me all you want, it will be a better middlebrow megahit than Bohemian Rhapsody

Honestly I don’t know what you’re all on about—if this didn’t look like a trash nightmare it wouldn’t be Cats. https://t.co/d1V5jXRiDm
