Remember how Bryan Singer was accused of sexually assaulting a number of young men, many of them underage, over a two decade time period? Remember how Millennium Films originally decided that wasn’t so big a problem and that they were happy to keep him on as the highly paid director of their planned Red Sonja movie? Well, they’ve now changed their minds. Funny, it’s almost like hiring an accused rapist with a history of unprofessional conduct in the workplace is a bad idea or something. I can’t believe we need to keep embarrassing men into doing the right thing, but on the bright side, Red Sonja is out of Singer’s hands!

Instead, writing and directorial duties will fall to Transparent creator Jill Soloway. The Emmy winner has mostly stuck to television for the past several years but has directed films such as Afternoon Delight.

Millennium have been trying to get a Red Sonja movie off the ground for years now. Originally, Rose McGowan was going to play the lead role, with Robert Rodriguez directing. Given the character’s recent resurgence in Dynamite Comics, including an excellent run under the guidance of Gail Simone, plus the popularity of the superhero genre, it seems like a smart move to get this into production. But wow, it’s depressing as all hell that Millennium were happy to keep Singer attached to this even after The Atlantic’s expose on those allegations went viral. Remember, he was allegedly going to receive a $10 million payday for the privilege too.

Seriously, Hollywood, the bar is SO LOW.
