Trailer Trash: A Promising Young Sinner Meets a Free Guy, Dracula, and John Mulaney

Welcome to another edition of Trailer Trash. First up, the trailer for Carey Mulligan’s Promising Young Woman is absolutely perfect. In what appears to be a thriller comedy from the exec producer of Killing Eve (it’s not Phoebe, but this has a Phoebe quality to it), Carey Mulligans plays a “promising young woman” whose career is derailed by a sexual assault. It’s a revenge tale, and I love that they’ve cast every douchey TV guy in Hollywood to play one of the dudes. It’s written and directed by Emerald Fennell, an actress and a writer on Killing Eve. The film opens on April 17th.

Curb Your Enthusiasm is a show that never seems to go away but has no regular schedule, either. It’ll be popping back up for its tenth season in January. Here’s the trailer for that, with a lot of great guest stars, as usual.

For some reason, I thought John Mulaney had a new Netflix stand-up special out this month, and I was very excited. It’s not that, but it looks fun, all the same. John Mulaney and the Sack Lunch Bunch is a Christmas special that includes a bunch of sketches and musical numbers in the style of an old-fashioned kids’ show. Here he is auditioning the kids, Bob Fosse-style:

A lot of folks don’t realize that Sinner is a USA Network series because as many people end up watching it on Netflix as they do on USA. The first season, with Jessical Biel, was pretty good. The second season, with Carrie Coon, was OK. The third season brings back Bill Pulmann’s Harry Ambrose again, this time to investigate another crime and another lost memory, here involving characters played by Matt Bomer and Chris Messina.

The trailer for Ryan Reynolds’ Free Guy is about a week old, but we haven’t featured it here, and it looks fun. It also takes the piss out of Disney, even though it’s a Fox movie (which is owned by Disney). It’s basically live-action Wreck-It-Ralph. Taika Waititi is also in it, but more importantly, so is Jodie Comer, and it’s fun seeing her outside of the context of Killing Eve.

Finally, here’s the trailer for Dracula, from Steven Moffat and Mark Gatiss, the guys behind Sherlock (and in Moffat, a few bad seasons of Doctor Who). The three-part series will premiere in the UK on New Year’s and will make its way to Netflix in the New Year.
