James brought this trailer for Nandor Fodor & The Talking Mongoose to my attention last week. I didn’t get the chance to watch it until this morning and I have very mixed feelings. While I’m excited about what seems like a fun, original, screenplay that has nothing to do with superheroes or children’s toys, I can’t figure out if this is going to be good or just “quirky.” The cast is promising with Simon Pegg, Minnie Driver, Christopher Lloyd, and Supernatural’s Ruth Connell. Plus the voice of Neil Gaiman as The Talking Mongoose.
The writer/director, Adam Sigal, has a number of projects under his belt that I’ve never heard of, but all of them have interesting names attached to them. In the past, he’s worked with David Arquette, Sean Patrick Flannery, Tom Berenger, and John Malkovich, so he must be doing something right.
Nandor Fodor was a real person and is not at all a new What We Do In The Shadows character. He was an associate of Sigmund Freud for a time and was also considered one of the leading authorities on poltergeists, haunting, and paranormal phenomena. This movie is based on an actual case that Fodor briefly investigated on the Isle of Man in the 1930s.
Nandor Fodor & The Talking Mongoose will be in theaters on September 1st.
Corner Office is also a bit dusty as far as trailers go, but it stars Jon Hamm and Danny Pudi so I knew we were all going to want to know about it. Although I question how relevant office-themed stories are right now. And how many years do we have left before audiences are entirely disconnected from the idea of the sort of creeping dread you only experience spending time in an office?
Corner Office will be released on August 4th in theaters and for streaming.
Cobweb is another movie we’re all feeling sort of “meh” about, except for the cast. Lizzy Caplan, Woody Norman (C’mon C’mon), Cleopatra Coleman (Infinity Pool), and Antony Starr (The Boys) star in this horror movie about a little boy who thinks his parents are hiding a terrifying secret that involves a mysterious knocking from within the walls of their house.
It might be scary! Anthony Starr is scary! Lizzy Caplan is…well, not generally scary but who doesn’t love Lizzy? Best not to think too much about it before Cobweb hits theaters on July 21st and maybe we’ll all be horrifyingly surprised.
After all of these lackluster movie trailers, this week’s lagniappe is something most of Pajiba can be excited about. The Heartstopper: Season 2 trailer. Young love is beautiful and complicated and drops on Netflix next Thursday, August 3rd.
