Did you watch The Pope’s Exorcist and think to yourself “Man, I wish Russell Crowe would encounter Satan more often?” Well, I have good news!
The Exorcism stars Crowe as an actor who gets cast in a cursed film and is then possessed. The movie was written by Joshua John Miller (The Final Girls), who played the young, child-like vampire in 1987’s cult classic Near Dark.
The cast also includes Adam Goldberg (from Dazed And Confused, not the other one.) Samantha Mathis (Pump Up The Volume), Sam Worthington, David Hyde Pierce, Chloe Bailey (Grown-ish), and Ryan Simpkins (Fear Street: Part Two - 1978).
Someone tell David Hyde Pierce you need a young priest and an old priest to perform an exorcism correctly.
The Exorcism opens in theaters on June 21st.
Lee premiered at TIFF last year to more of a whimper than a bang. But the cast assembled for this biopic of war correspondent and photographer Lee Miller is too strong to ignore. The film stars Josh O’Connor, Andrea Riseborough, Andy Samberg, Alexander Skarsgård, Marion Cotillard, and Kate Winslet as Miller who famously once posed for a picture in Hitler’s private bathtub.
Lee is directed by award-winning Cinematographer Ellen Kuras (Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, Summer Of Sam) and will be released in theaters on September 27th.
I canceled my gym membership during the pandemic and have been doing at-home workouts with various YouTube fitness “enthusiasts” since then. A lot of their videos looked like the videos created by the main character in Mind Body Spirit when they first started out, with slightly less falling down. So the premise for this little, independent horror movie feels familiar. It also feels like a great opportunity to cringe at a stereotypical white lady yoga influencer being plunged into a creepy nightmare.
Just say no to esoteric fitness rituals, y’all.
Mind Body Spirit is coming to digital on May 7th.
When Evil first premiered on CBS in 2019 I thought it was dumb. I made it about three episodes into the first season before giving up. At some point though, Dustin’s reviews and continued enthusiasm for the show wore me down won me over and I gave it a second shot. When I was able to binge a bunch of episodes at once I loved it. It’s a silly show, that knows it’s silly. And while it’s still Network Broadcast Television Scary, it has its moments!
The fourth and final season of Evil begins streaming on Paramount+ on May 23rd. Here’s your lagniappe. Have a great weekend. Watch out for The Devil!
