Bob Dylan is one of the few musical artists I can honestly say I’ve been a fan of all of my life. The first concert I saw was the Bob Dylan concert my father took me to at Radio City Music Hall. The internet tells me that was in 1988 when I was twelve. Our seats were up in one of the balconies, and that’s all I remember about it. I think I fell asleep during the opening act and only woke up a few times and heard snippets of Bob playing. At the end of the concert, my dad bought me a hot dog.
When they announced A Complete Unknown, I did not believe we needed a biopic about Bob. Nor did I believe Timothée Chalamet was the right actor to do the job. To be honest, I’m still not entirely sure of this whole thing. But the director has a good track record. And Timothée hasn’t let us down yet.
James Mangold (Logan, Walk The Line, Ford v Ferrari) directs a cast that includes Monica Barbaro (FUBAR) as Joan Baez, Boyd Holbrook as Johnny Cash, Laura Kariuki (The Wonder Years) as Mavis Staples, Scoot McNairy as Woody Guthrie, Nick Offerman as Alan Lomax, and Edward Norton as Pete Seeger with a five-head that doesn’t look quite right. I’m just saying what we’re all thinking.
A Complete Unknown opens in theaters on Christmas Day.
You guys wanna see Peter Dinklage beat some guys up in a Wild West bar fight? Of course, you do. Whether or not the rest of The Thicket is worth it remains to be seen. And I am going to need someone to tell me what Juliette Lewis is doing with her voice here because I would like to give her some ginger tea with honey. But this trailer is fun!
The Thicket also stars James Hetfield (yes, THAT James Hetfield), Levon Hawke, Sophia Lillis (I Am Not OK With This), Noomi Rapace, Gbenga Akinnagbe (The Old Man), and David Midthunder (Longmire). It opens in theaters on September 6th.
Chiwetel Ejiofor directs the upcoming film Rob Peace based on the book The Short and Tragic Life of Robert Peace: A Brilliant Young Man Who Left Newark for the Ivy League by Jeff Hobbs. It looks like a real heartbreaker.
Jay Will (Tulsa King), Camila Cabello, Mary J. Blige, Gbenga Akinnagbe, Mare Winningham, Michael Kelly, and Juan Castano star with Ejiofor in Rob Peace.
Rob Peace premieres in theaters on August 16th.
I have one more animated project to share as lagniappe before I get back to my regularly scheduled absurdity. Check out the trailer for DC Comics Creature Commandos coming to Max in December. Next week, back to meth gators or ketamine crocodiles, or something.
